Hello!

I am so glad you are here at my site and reading this – I hope you are as passionate about home beauty and DIY products and treatments as I am.  If you aren’t you soon will be as making your own products and treatments is not only fun, cost effective and convenient — you will look and feel terrific!

It is also super easy I like to think of it as a cross between cooking and crafting and anyone that can read and follow a few simple instructions can do it.  Creating your own products will also make you a better consumer as of course I still buy products but always read the label first and also don’t want to spend a bunch of $$ on something that is basically table salt or water.

I live in Southern Oregon with my husband and 100 pound dog, Elvis.  I have two beautiful daughters one in the midwest and the other in southern California.  I love to visit them when I travel.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to see a specific recipe featured.  I have 3 books on the subject of Natural Beauty and hundreds of recipes.  I also write for a number of magazines on a regular basis so you may find my recipes there as well.

Have a beautiful day and I hope you become a regular visitor and friend.

xoxo Janice

  1. I am a long time fan of your books. I just have a question. What is the difference between hair rinses, conditoners and shampoos?? I am having trouble knowing whats the best products to make.

    1. Shampoos clean your scalp and hair. Rinses are used for a variety of reasons: Cleansing the scalp, removing odor and residues from styling products, adding natural color, adding body…. Conditioners are used to treat dry hair conditions and are a good monthly or weekly addition to your hair care regime. So glad you are enjoying my books and recipes — let me know if you have any other questions.

  2. Dear Janice,
I found your book Natural Beauty at Home at a thrift shop one day and have read it numerous times and used many of the recipes. It’s the one book I don’t think twice about keeping when it comes time to thin out my book shelf. I think it is the most comprehensive and practical book I’ve ever seen on natural body care. I am so impressed and inspired!
One question. I noticed your post on fertilizing your roses with epsom salts. At our local farm supply store they sell 25kg bags of magnesium sulfate for about 20$ (CND) a bag. In my mind this is a much more economical way of having a detox bath but of course, I wonder is this a safe substitute? I know that magnesium sulfate is the same thing as epsom salts but just packaged for plant use and therefore much much cheaper. Any suggestions?
Thanks again you for doing what you do!

    1. Oh you are so sweet! I am glad you are enjoying my book and recipes. I do think you can use the large bag of epsom salts you found at your garden store. Just make sure it is 100% safe so look at the ingredient list and you may also ask the supply store. I knew of a guy who started a bath salt business using recipes from my book and this was his source of salts so I am pretty sure it is safe. He also used to mix large quantities in a small cement mixer? So you just never know where you will find beauty! Have a wonderful summer.
